I have experienced the awesome grandeur of that which is the Fire and Ice Protea hotel in Melrose Arch on Wednesday the 1st of February 2012.
First off – I would like to thank the people who contributed to making this happen, having my birthday long weekend kick off with an absolute bang – Jodene Shaer and Greg Arthur at Lifeology for their time and valuable input with all the Tweet-ups in and around Johannsburg and also Anton Gillis and Karen Battaliou for their involvement and support, warm welcome and hospitality at The Fire and Ice.
Being greeted by the friendliest, amicable reception staff and offered a glass of cranberry juice to cool down from the heat outside, I was booked in to my splendorific room on the third floor. I was lucky enough to share my room with my absolute iconic hero, Audrey Hepburn.
As my baggage was carried up for me by the team, I was welcomed into a room that dripped in style, class, modern edge and rose petals on the floor leading up to the bed. My oh my, did the pillows and duvet envelope me with divine comfort later that night!
After getting dressed, I proceeded downstairs to the first floor where the bar and outside terrace is situated. I indulged in a few fantastic milkshakes dripping in caramel vodka and tequila and proceeded to mosey on back upstairs to my room that was reminiscent of a movie star’s boudoir.
I was surprised as I opened my door, as a bucket with a bottle of Champagne
was sneaked in with two Champagne glasses and a personal note from management welcoming me to their fantastic establishment and wishing me a happy birthday. I felt like such a rock star, listening to some music, drinking and catching up on some much needed me-time.
After a long night filled with conversations, drinks and a really comfortable sleep, I awoke to an awesome breakfast. Delicious beyond and made me crave more! The food is scrumptious and I would highly recommend people to pop in for a dinner or lunch.
The décor enchanted me and I felt like royalty with the way I was received, treated by staff, room service and even when booking out.
A magical experience indeed, one I would relive soon again and encourage everyone to do as well, as a rock star home away from home.
Signing off with gratitude beyond words
